16 x 14 cm 6 ¼" x 5 ½" open bag re-purposed piece of embroidery likely from the sleeve of a dress. Fabric appears to be hand woven cotton, embroidery threads likely cotton, lined with manufactured cotton and grommets added for string handles.label inside "Greek purse 1850 11" small label "5" attached with straight pin removed
one handle is string original to re-purpose second one is yellow embroidery thread;collected by Mary Eleanor Palin (Nellie) between 1910 and 1927 while English governess to Lavria Averof in Athens Greece
